Childhood Memories

I was trying to write something interesting but nothing came to mind until I started thinking about funny things that happened in my childhood. However, what I thought of wasn’t exactly funny. As a matter of fact, it makes me really happy that I no longer live, work and pay local taxes for this shithole city I use to live in.

I use to live in San Carlos, a slow time upgraded city filled with snobs (except for my mother of course). Don’t read too much into that, Layla.

You see, when I was young, my kid brother, Tony, and I use to ride our bikes outside all day. We use to ride in the street back then. You see, our sidewalks were so bad, that you couldn’t ride on them. When the community was built, the city planted these trees but no one ever thought about the roots that would grow oversized and cause the sidewalks to lift, creating huge bumps, forcing our bikes out onto the street.

One day, Tony was riding his bicycle and was forced out onto the street when he hit one of the massive bumps on the sidewalk. He did not see the city truck that was barreling down the street and collided with the truck. Tony suffered a concussion, several scrapes and bruises, two sprained ankles and a sprained wrist. Let me clear something up, if my brother had been an average sized kid, which he wasn’t for his age, his injuries would have been more severe. Since my brother is a big guy, he sustained only minor injuries. To back to the story, Tony was taken away in an ambulance.

Almost a year later, a reporter comes to our door, asking us what we think about the lawsuit that the City of San Carlos has filed against my six year old brother. My mother’s mouth dropped. You read that correctly, the City of San Carlos sued my little brother, who was six at the time, because the driver claimed that he hurt his back when stepping on the break and turning the wheel to avoid hitting my brother. Not to mention, he was out of work for 71 days because of this. Well, this city worker’s friend calls us up and says that the man hurt his back originally in a bowling accident. I might as well point out the police record’s finding of a 15 ½ foot skid mark, yet the worker said he was only doing 15 MPH. Yeah right. It was also weird because a month before we found out about the lawsuit, the city fixed all the sidewalks. Anyway, the story was on the news, Donohue (remember that guy, lol) and Good Morning America. So, there you have it; one of my childhood memories.

Oh yeah, my brother and the city ended up settling for $5,000 each, canceling out everything. What a waste of lawyer fees and time, huh?

THANKS SAN CARLOS, YOU SUCK!
