Nazi Hit List

On Friday, my grandmother made her famous, “I have to talk to you about something”, phone call (usually consists of mindless dreams and physic bullshit) but much to my dismay, this is a phone call that can potentially become every parent’s nightmare.

Belle and her friend Jenny went over to my grandmother’s house to play after school. When they arrived there, Belle and Jenny told my grandmother a horrendous story involving them, a couple of other girls a little devil by the name of Corrine. Corrine had told Belle, Jenny and a couple of other girls that they are on a Nazi Hit List and if each of them received one more check next to their names, they would each be killed.

The girls went to the Vice Principal to tell him about it. However, the “Nazi Hit List” was left unspoken of. The only thing the girls told the VP was that there was a list created by a couple of kids outside the school and if one of them received another check then “something” was going to happen. That “something” was never defined by the girls or Corrine because Corrine did not know what that “something” consisted of. Corrine went on to tell the VP that it was all a joke in preparation for April Fools the next day. The VP chastised Corrine and told her that although she may thought it a funny joke, there is nothing funny about making threats to classmates. Corrine was suspended.

When I spoke to the VP, this exact information was relayed to me. Nothing was ever said about a Nazi Hit List. I was confused about what was going on because the VP did tell me that if there was a death threat, the whole incident would have been treated differently and would have involved the cops. I decided that since he never mentioned anything about the Hit List, something was up. I decided that I had to go to the school and meet with Belle and the VP to decipher truth from fiction. I met with the VP and things are being handled much differently now that he knows all the facts. He promised me a call today to which I have not heard from him. I am hoping that this is a product of an overactive imagination stemming from recent incidents of school mishaps.

It ended up that Belle left this information out because she was afraid that if she told, then she would die. This is an awful thing to go through for a young child especially with the latest school shooting in Minnesota. So far the only linguistics I have is 1) Corrine is suspended for the time being and there is no specific date of her return. 2) Corrine was chatting on the internet, according to Belle and Jenny, and that is where the Nazi Hit List is coming from and 3) My daughter is not the only one on that supposed list.

The VP NEVER called about this incident. Instead, I had to hear it from my grandmother who heard it from my daughter and her friend. I voiced to the VP that I am very disappointed that I was not notified of the situation even though he did not know about the Hit List. He should have called me about the incident regardless. To me, that was a MAJOR failure on the part of the VP. If there is an incident that involves someone’s child even if the threat involves unspecified harm, that parent has the right to be notified and it is the duty and responsibility of school officials to execute that. There is no reason why I shouldn’t have been notified and I am mortified that my daughter’s school kept this information from me.
