Some Kind of Wonderful

I'd like to tell you about my beautiful, wonderful, thoughtful, generous and loving daughter, Belle.
Belle was born on August 23, 1993. Two hours after I had her, the hospital gave her an award for the most beautiful baby of the year. This beauty would later reflect the kind of person that Belle has grown to be.

As an only child, I thought Belle would encounter behavior problems such as the infamous disease, Everything’s mine and I don’t share. I was deathly afraid of this, even though some children with siblings suffer the same. My biggest nightmare was the double standard; only child + disease = hellion. Au contraire! Belle has grown into a bright young lady, possessing qualities that will ensure her a successful life.

Belle has led quite a life at the young age of eleven. My grandparents and parents helped out a lot with the raising of my daughter. We call her the village or community child because there are so many wonderful people who are helping to bring her up. Belle’s biological father died before she was born. However, she couldn’t have been more blessed with Bello as her daddy. The two of them revel in video games and it drives me crazy however, they’re buddies and it’s wonderful to watch them interact.

Now that Belle is approaching seventh grade, things are changing a lot. She’s becoming quite the young lady and loves to do those “girlie” things with her girlfriends; makeup, hair styles, the in style clothing and of course the big “hang out” down at the local shopping center. It reminds me of when I was growing up. I was called a Mall Rat. Remember those???

Belle has always shown great interest in clothing and takes pride in her style. Bello says she dresses better than I do and has a better sense of taste. Bello better watch his toes. For Mothers Day, Belle bought me tennis shoes with iridescent blue stripes. They are snazzy and I love ‘em. I took this as a subtle hint…

So, I learned a lesson from my daughter this past Mother’s Day; perhaps it’s time that I get with the times and start taking pride in how I dress. I am in no way sloppy but I don’t wear the right clothes. I have been told this many times. This past weekend, Belle helped jump start what may be a new look for me just by giving me a pair of shoes. Belle has learned from me just as I have learned from her. Thank you, Belle, for being that wonderful daughter and making me so proud. I love you.
