Apostatize All Judgement My Friends!

My daughter Belle blasted me on her site because she felt that I was angry about one of her posts called Gun. I had posted a comment and I don’t remember exactly what I wrote – she deleted my comment – and proceeded to write a post back to me asking what I was so offended about.

The more I think about her post the more I thought, “Is this morally right or wrong?” Go ahead and read. This one first and this one second. I’ll wait.

Does that sound like something you want to read on your child’s site? Not me. However, I do have to leave room for her privacy. She has a right to post what she pleases as long as it is in good taste.

I think my problem was people judging me. I let my daughter play these games and I was afraid that people would criticize me for it. Well, honestly, I don’t care. Yes, I let my daughter listen to Eminem and 50 Cent. Yes, I let her play Grand Theft Auto and Gun. So what? If my daughter starts wearing trench coats, locking herself in her room, becoming unsociable, an outcast, acting strange or anything that seems out of character or what is considered normal child behavior, then I will cease all those activities and straighten her out. Until then, I’d rather have my child playing these games, listening to this music under my roof, than sneaking off with friends to get her music and video game fix.

I feel that as long as my child knows right from wrong and I can instill these morals into her head, then she should be safe from becoming a psycho maniac who kills everyone. And if she does become a psycho killer, then I have myself to blame; not the video games or the music. Pop culture may influence, but it’s not to blame.

After all, not EVERY kid who plays these games or listens to violent music ends up a criminal. Right?

So Belle, I’m sorry if I upset you; I didn’t mean to. You can continue with your Gun video game and your Green Day music and all that but remember they are privileges; not rights.

Now go clean your room or no video games for a week.
