The Death Penalty

A couple of years ago one of Belle’s teachers was convicted of child molestation, seven counts to be exact and was sentenced to over 100 years in prison, with no option to appeal or parole. It was a good victory for the victims but it’s a long road to recovery, if any, for hopes of a normal life.

In class today, the question Should the Death Penalty Be Abolished? was asked by our instructor. A majority said no because they believe that the death penalty helps reduce crime. Sometimes I can’t believe that I go to school with these people. The death penalty does not reduce crime, in fact, the states that have the death penalty report higher crime rates than those who don’t. However, I do not believe that the death penalty should be abolished but it should not be used as regular means of punishment even if it’s reserved for the most heinous crimes. EXCEPT….yes, except for child predators. There is no room on earth for criminals like those; who prey on our young innocent children, destroying their youth. It is a fact that child predators NEVER learn. They are released back into the public to continue their dirty deeds and some become worse pedophiles than they were before. Some begin to torture children; raping and then killing them in the most disturbing ways. No. There is no room for pedophiles EVER. They should be put to death so that we never hear or read about them ever again.
